About Ms. Bev

Born and raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City, this single mom of three and grandmother of 3 had several menial jobs and a few of her own diverse businesses as varied as the first full-figured strip troupe and creative home-based baking business. But for 15 years she did work as a tax preparer, office manager, and instructor for the nation's largest tax company for 8 years in New York and then continued for another 7 after moving to Las Vegas. (she hates snow and cold)

After several failed attempts she finally was able to start the journey to complete her education and entered UNLV in 2017 at the age of 60, to obtain her very first Bachelor's degree. UNLV had a Facebook group for incoming students but before her first fall semester began she complained that there was not a group for the older students. A fellow incoming student, Tom Fairchild, made a group, starting with 4 others and Ms. Bev worked hard to bring that group to about 450 students in her 4 years. Then with others, she and Tom resurrected the registered student organization, The Alliance of Non-Traditional Students, aka ANTS, that had been dormant for 3 years with about 35 members. In her 4 years, the group grew to near 350 members and became the second-largest RSO of the over 300 on campus.

Ms. Bev's mission was one of civil rights, to first bring recognition that non-traditional students existed and needed to be heard.

Ms. Bev graduated in Dec 2021, plans to pursue her Masters beginning in 2023 and hopes to start a non-for-profit teaching disenfranchised women of color how to start their own home-based micro-businesses.
